So... to use a real world analogy with which you are no doubt familiar: Our QA department procedures suck... so lets put it into production anyway... after all we are "not designing nuclear reactors here". :) Why is it that as soon as we start discussing DQ, our hobby, we seem to forget all of the skills that we apply to our work. I am always amazed that with such a high proportion of (I assume) well skilled computer professionals within the group that we have (as a group) such lousy analysis, design, development and testing procedures. We seem to believe that in some way using our real world, professional skills would reduce the enjoyment of our hobby. I dispute this. I have less stress and tension in an important business meeting than I do at a GM's meeting. In part this is because of the professional attitude that the business metting is run with, and the co-operation of the parties involved. By contrast GM's meetings tend to be poorly run, badly focused, and can degenerate into behaviour that would never be tolerated in business. And it is not as though those chairing the GM's meetings have no skills in this -- many of you will have chaired (or at least been involved in) similar meetings for your job. Why do be believe that social equates to sloppy? Or that because DQ is a voluntary and informal organisation that we can behave in discourteous ways? I think that if we were to apply even some of the rigour and standards that we consider commonplace at work, we could cut through most of the crap that we get bogged in, reduce tensions, encourage a more genial atmosphere and produce a better end product. If not then I know this big guy in customs and Struan would have to go past customs to leave the country.... ;-) Just kidding... but on a more helpful note: How about we give him an amount EP for finishing the rulebook, that he could spend on his characters while he is way in the USA. While he is in the USA it's not like he can earn any EP, so giving him an amount to spend will not unbalance the characters. When they do return and Struan plays them again they will only be as good as a character that was here in Auckland playing for the same mount of time. I think if Struan puts in the work pay him in EP.
