The ability to let others see invisible is a *huge* advantage. To my mind, it is what moves Celesital from 'a fine collage to have along' to 'we really want one of these' when considering who you want in your party. As I recall, its duration is pretty long (half or one hour per rank.) You can cast it before breakfast on yourself, regain the fatigue for the meal, and have it most of the day. With high MA, it is also very much cheaper to rank. To top it off, it has (currently) a 100% chance of seeing invisible - compared to the talent which will give 20%ish for characters with a few adventures to 60%ish at medium level. (Higher if your character can afford greaters, which my lowish medium level witch can't.) Reply-To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz Below is a revised copy of the April Gods Meeting minutes produced after receiving some feedback on the original set. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------ DQ Gods Meeting Minutes April 1999 Present: Jacqui, Mike Parkinson, Dean, Phil, Jono, Jim, Rosemary, Andrew, Mike Young, Jon, Ian, William, Keith, Terry 1) Location of Guild Meetings Rosemary has been investigating suitable locations. The nearest hall, available on Sundays, is the Parnell Community Centre which charges $25/hr. This implies we would need to charge around $2/head as attendances at Guild Meetings were about the 40 mark. Another possibility suggested were school halls such as St Mary's College. It was desirable to have the meetings as close to Central Auckland as possible as to minimise the number of bus trips required to get there. Another suggestion raised was to formalise an arrangement with the University which could cost up to $50/hr. It was then asked whether or not graduates count as students and how many university members we had in case we could qualify as an alumni club. Rosemary would try to see if Parnell could be procured as well. Vote of thanks raised for Terry for his efforts in providing the Lower Common Room for our use in the past. It was pointed out that running the September Guild meeting could be 'interesting' because of APEC and the city being 'locked down' during the leaders meetings. This was happening between the 10-12th of September. It may be necessary to move the Guild meeting away from that weekend, preferably towards the future. 2) Statuses of Probationary Colleges. It was noted that if any of the colleges are voted out that characters playing those colleges get their time and EP back for reinvestment. Note: All voting in order (Pass/Abstain/Fail) i) Bardic. It was pointed out that the College has been evolving and any further problems can be fixed no matter what the status was. Also, the probationary status of the College may be putting off people playing Bardic Mages. Keep the College in any form (12/1/1) Upgrade the College to full status from probationary (11/1/2) ii) Binder What was the theme of this College? Many people thought it should be Enchanting Objects. Should we extend E&E or keep Binder. Many of the spells in the College were perceived to be useful but others still needs work. Golems were currently seen to be a problem. It was reported that Scott has offered to do a version of the College that doesn't have golems. The question was asked 'Should people who have characters in a College be working on that College?' It was decided if they want to, let them. Keep the College in any form (7/3/4) Upgrade the College to full status from probationary (4/1/8) iii) Ice This College was generally regarded as ok although the Ice Pack spell was mentioned as having problems. Keep the College in any form (10/3/1) Upgrade the College to full status from probationary (11/1/3) 3) Elementals Maybe the rituals should relate to the Bestiary as they are what is summoned while the Earth spell creates less powerful ones. It was mentioned that other creatures also have combined FT/EN eg Phantasms. For Earth elementals it was preferred that the height of the elemental is tied to the endurance. Do we want elementals to exceed their listed limits in the Beastary? Andrew to provide a list of options. 4) Fumble table. A new version was presented at the meeting which removed overstrengthing factors. GMs could treat this table the same as the backfire and critical hits table i.e. they could have their own. Should overstrengthed weapons be adjusted so as not to break on extra strength. Most weapons are bulk standard but characters can get weapons made to compensate for overstrengthing. The vote was (9/0/4) to put the new fumble rules into playtest and another vote is to taken next month to formally add them to the rules. Item to be added to next month's agenda. 5) Remove curse triangle limits Which way do we want this and we should clarify one way or another instead of returning to an indeterminate state. Making triangles portable would see more use of the ritual in play. Change rules that symbols of power for curse removal are portable (8/0/2) 6) Maps Kelsie has access to equipment for developing maps and is working on them. 7) Training Should magic be allowed to be ranked with skills. Less complicated if we do and only seems to matter with magical rituals. It also saves time, which is a non-renewable resource. Encourages specialisation? More discussion to follow. 8) GMs workshop Jon keen to do another GMs workshop. Jim and Mike Young have been working on a booklet covering the technical approach to GMing upon similar lines to what Jon was going to do. 9) Languages Two separate documents were handed out representing two different ways that languages could be handled i.e. Language Family Trees or Structured relationships. Mike Parkinson requested guidance on which way to go. 10) Witchsight v Invisibility A proposal for discussion has been placed on the e-mail list.
