It is better if the abilities are 'magical' in nature, rather than 'technical'. In other words, I don't think the sort of thing an earth mage rock sense should reveal is stuff about the geological information. It should tell them something about the nature of the land, or something about the earth currents, or some other weird shit. > >On the down side, there is the extra GM load... a zealous Earth mage with "rock >reading" is going to mean that I need to know more about geology. As the range of divinatory magic increases, the impetus for characters to interact with the world reduces...Therefore, divinatory magic opened to all of the colleges would have to be carefully done. >Of course another solution is to not make these abilities talents at all. There >should probably be cheap general spells to do these tasks (one each in the >appropriate colleges) and at a point of FT each that should cut down the number >of questions. I think that if the information provided by the talent were trivial enough, then it wouldn't matter too much...And, that should be the aim. Unless there is a very good reason, the information provided to players should be less, rather than more, just coloured a little, to reflect the nature of their magic. Obviously, if an ability gives higher grade information, then making it a spell may well be a must. Reply-To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz One problem I find while GM'ing in knowing the colleges and spells well enough to play NPC's in combat. SO the solution. I have some Excel Spreadsheets with the details of the spells that gives me all the details of what each spell does by rank. The first one completed so far is Celestial. So if anyone wanys a copy for either their character or for generating NPC's in a hurry Email me at mandos@iconz.co.nz. Also if you have requests of what colleges you wish to see done send them too.
