It was generally agreed that it would not be possible to get this ready for a December release so it was decided to get the draft out by February for proofing and publish at the March Guild meeting. It was also asked if the Player's Guide could be ready at the same time. An unofficial GM's guide was also being assembled by Jono and would be made available over the Web. It is to be left unofficial and documents will be added to it when required. 4) Magic Resistance. - It was clarified that Magic Resistance is a stat and, as such, the stat maximum base chance rule applies. 5) Namer. - Martin reported that a draft of the revised Namer College should be out soon. It includes appendices on Names, Counterspells, and Detect Aura. 6) Mind.- The revised Mind College should be posted to the e-mail list shortly for comment. 7) Magic Balance. Jono suggested a system where spells can be tagged with special effects, such as knockback for bolt spells. Such effects could be bought at an extra EP cost (could be a percentile of the base EM) and the spell reranked. This would make characters more varied as their spells could have different effects. Spells could do less damage but affect more targets. . It was suggested that a flat EM limit be used to identify spells that are powerful and can't be enhanced. 8) Storage Attributes. The usual rules are that self only spells cannot be invested and concentration spells cannot be warded, however there are exceptions. It was concluded that the rules should be followed unless the spell designer feels it is special. 9) Star of Alusia. A formal writeup is to be developed. The suggestions were that the user does not suffer any detriments from dying, and has positive reaction rolls from other people. The Star is a medallion and has the effect that it looks better than any other jewellery. It is made out of mithral which cannot be reforged. It has an ITN so it can be summoned if lost or stolen. It may have been part of a set of royal regalia. Arguably Def is stat based, although since it is not rolled it would not be subject to a Stat Check limit. Strike Chance is not a stat check any more than Climbing is. There is however an argument that it is a skill check (90 + Rank %) although I don't think that weapon skills were originally covered by this. The question here is: Is MR a stat based check? Going the other way, what isn't it? It isn't a primary attribute like PS or WP. It isn't a secondary (calculated stat) like FT -- the major difference being that although FT is initially set by EN it subsequently does not fluctuate with EN... it is not a skill, spell, talent, ritual, or weapon. I realise that arguing what it isn't does not prove what it is... but... MR is dynamically calculated from WP at x1 + modifiers. If it is not a stat check then what is it? (If we care to define it as a different kind of secondary stat then I would be happy to agree that the stat check limit does not apply). And if it is a stat check should it not be covered by the maximum 70% + stat + difficulty modifier rule? Cheers, Martin PS: Logically Stun Recovery (at WP x 2 + modifiers) is also a stat check and covered by the same rule. The major problem I find is that the greaters on the party are disparate and this can exaggerate the relative differences in the characters' capabilities-- and that has a direct impact on the comparative capabilities of the characters & hence the enjoyability for all the players (especially the GM). And let's face it, I'm often a GM for whom the power-level of the PCs is often not relevant. Sometimes it is not possible to "crank up" the power of the opposition; and even if you can, again that *really* reinforces the difference in PC puissance. Sometimes I have said to a player that they can take their character on this adventure, provided that they *don't* get a greater. My regrets are that: 1) I haven't said this often enough. 2) Far too frequently I can't say it, because the character has either a Rank 20 greater or else a greater which still has a month or two to run, because of the timing of their last adventure. What do we want? Do we want a max MR of 71+WP? If so, we let MR fall under stats. If not, we don't. However, it is a choice, not an "oops, we didn't realise for 18 years". Lets have a discussion on what we want for an MR maximum if this is an issue. PPS: If MR is a different kind of secondary stat then Stun Recovery is much the same kind. -- _/_/ Peace Software New Zealand Ltd Email: Martin.Dickson@peace.com _/ Martin Dickson Fax : +64-9-373-0401 Analyst Phone: +64-9-373-0400 -- see unsubscribe instructions in message headers -- -- see unsubscribe instructions in message headers -- From owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Tue Nov 9 10:48:12 1999 Received: (from bin@localhost) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-19980830) id KAA12157; Tue, 9 Nov 1999 10:39:20 +1300 Received: from mailhost.auckland.ac.nz (mailhost.auckland.ac.nz [130.216.1.4]) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-19980830) with ESMTP id KAA12144 for ; Tue, 9 Nov 1999 10:39:03 +1300 Received: from sci4 (lbr-122-42.lbrsc.auckland.ac.nz [130.216.122.42]) by mailhost.auckland.ac.nz (8.9.2/8.9.2/8.9.2-ua) with SMTP id KAA16670 for ; Mon, 8 Nov 1999 10:36:35 +1300 (NZDT) Subject: RE: November meeting minutes Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 10:34:41 +1300 Message-ID: <000d01bf2967$e6698ab0$2a7ad882@sci4.libraryserver.lbr.auckland.ac.nz> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----=_NextPart_000_000E_01BF29D4.DD62D2B0" X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook 8.5, Build 4.71.2173.0 X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.2106.4 From: "Michael Parkinson" To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz Sender: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Errors-To: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Precedence: bulk X-Loop: dq@dq.sf.org.nz X-Requests: To unsubscribe from this list, or change your subscription address, send a message to dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz. However (following Martin's summation of the logic behind, & overlaying, the topic), those 9 of us who eventually turned up do want a MR-roll to be consistent with other stat checks. Thus you may have, say 120 MR which applies to active resistance, and makes the player feel good, etc, but when it comes actually making the MR-roll then we do want a maximum success of 71+WP, by analogy to other stat rolls. To assert that MR is a stat check and should follow the rules for one? We should have workshops and sub-committees and drafts and revisions? One could argue that a desire to tie something this minor up in bureaucratic red tape must surely be "to satisfy someone's personal agenda". And no, I don't know whether you have an agenda about this -- but you are making a damn big assumption that this was "pushed through" to satisfy one either. Surely this is at most a fast track item. It is a single, well defined change, whose implications are fully understood. As such it can be brought up an voted upon by a GM's meeting. If you'd bothered to turn up, then you could have queried whether someone was "pushed through" [sic] something "to satisfy someone[']s personal agenda" [sic]. If you're not there then please do NOT make unfounded and wild claims. I do understand that some people may be unable to make a specific Gods' meeting -- indeed it was good to have Mandos' contributions, esp. since he is often unable to make the meeting through work commitments. I strongly suggest that someone unable to attend should enquire tactfully about circumstances or the nature of a discussion before making such an offensive statement. I was at the meeting [although I didn't want to be], and I did NOT get the impression that something was "pushed" through, nor that it was satisfying "someone's personal agenda." I thought we had a rational discussion that had a clear consensus, and that this was how we voted, all as the secretary has recorded and promptly published. Perhaps if you'd been there Terry you could have exposed the person with the personal agenda; Or was I too obtuse to realise that there was a conspiracy by the majority of the other GMs there? -- see unsubscribe instructions in message headers -- From owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Tue Nov 9 11:30:06 1999 Received: (from bin@localhost) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-19980830) id LAA12388; Tue, 9 Nov 1999 11:13:20 +1300 Received: from enterprise.iconz.co.nz (enterprise.iconz.co.nz [210.48.22.40]) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-19980830) with SMTP id LAA12379 for ; Tue, 9 Nov 1999 11:13:13 +1300 Received: (qmail 23945 invoked from network); 7 Nov 1999 22:11:09 -0000 Received: from e0.firewall.ak.iconz.net.nz (HELO schroedinger) (202.14.100.208) by enterprise.iconz.co.nz with SMTP; 7 Nov 1999 22:11:09 -0000 Subject: RE: November meeting minutes Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 11:09:02 +1300 Message-ID: MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0) X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V4.72.3110.3 From: "Mandos D Shadowspawn Esq" To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz Sender: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Errors-To: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Precedence: bulk X-Loop: dq@dq.sf.org.nz X-Requests: To unsubscribe from this list, or change your subscription address, send a message to dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz. It was not "pushed through as a personal agenda" it was a realisation that something had been interpreted in a manner that may or not be correct. Discussion about the issue was conducted by those who attended the session and it was deemed that it was a clarification of an abiguous rule. The two ways I see of looking at it are : 1 MR is a willpower stat check. 2 MR is a number in it's own right generated with Willpower as a base component. Both are possibly true and have good arguments. The gods meeting has clarified the issue one way or another and we can now debate the issue from a clear position. The fact is that it will not require any changes to the rule book is the indication that it is soley a clarification. Pointless shouting an posturing over the procedures and definitions will not assist in this debate so would you like to state your case in a more rational fashion. Reply-To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz I felt the combat area was too weak without it. Most characters fight with one weapon by preference, so the area bonus would be weapon + stun recovery. No-one would take the area, they would just take +21% on their favorite weapon. Having MR as part of the combat group makes it a tougher choice which option to go for. And even tougher for those indecisive fighter-mages :). I can see them coping out with a mediocre +6% on everything. > -----Original Message----- > From: RMansfield@aj.co.nz [SMTP:RMansfield@aj.co.nz] > Sent: Monday, November 08, 1999 10:49 AM > To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz > Subject: Re: Greater - variant 159... > > > I like this better than most suggestions. > > I would, however like to see MR moved to 3) as this evens up the three > options. > > Rosemary > > > > > Stephen Martin > Sent by: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz > > 08/11/1999 23:23 > Please respond to dq > > To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz > cc: > Subject: Greater - variant 159... > > > > Duration & Cost: > Either: 1 Season regardless of rank and 250sp per rank. > Or: 1 Day (+1/Rank) (+1 / 100sp) > > Allow it to affect self. - Don't see any particularly good reason to keep > this restriction. > > Effect: Increase one base chance by 1% (+1/Rank), increase all base > chances > in one area by 1% (+1 / 2 Full Ranks), or increase all base chances by 1% > (+1 / 4 Full Ranks). > The areas are: > 1) Magic (Including all colleged and non-colleged talents, spells, and > rituals) > 2) Combat (Weapon BCs, Stun Recovery, MR) > 3) General (Skills, Stat Checks) > > > Cheers, Stephen. > > -- see unsubscribe instructions in message headers -- > > -- see unsubscribe instructions in message headers -- From owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Tue Nov 9 11:42:55 1999 Received: (from bin@localhost) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-19980830) id LAA12418; Tue, 9 Nov 1999 11:14:42 +1300 Received: from akl-notes.aj.co.nz (ns.aj.co.nz [202.27.194.165]) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-19980830) with ESMTP id LAA12409 for ; Tue, 9 Nov 1999 11:14:34 +1300 Subject: Re: New Healing Potion Announcement & Write Up X-Mailer: Lotus Notes Release 5.0 (Intl) 30 March 1999 Message-ID: Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 11:07:02 +1300 X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MIMETrack: Serialize by Router on akl-notes.aj.co.nz/AJNzl/NZ(Release 5.0.1b (Intl)|30 September 1999) at 08/11/99 11:07:33, Serialize complete at 08/11/99 11:07:33 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="=_alternative 007968BBCC256822_=" From: RMansfield@aj.co.nz To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz Sender: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Errors-To: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Precedence: bulk X-Loop: dq@dq.sf.org.nz X-Requests: To unsubscribe from this list, or change your subscription address, send a message to dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz. I thought the reward = was 1 20 pt healing potion (1,000sp) or 1000sp services.
When did 20pt = potions go to 2,000sp?

Maybe I'm just = confused?

Ithink is should just be a Guild = Services voucher for 2000 sp. =A0Then the character can spend it on = anything, healing, taxes (my favourite), training etc.

    Currently it is:
    1) One 20pt Healing Potion (worth 2000sp) or
    2) 2000sp of Guild services or
    3) 2000sp cash (at accountant's discretion)

I could give out a ten-pack (5 of = each type) but that seems a bit much.
Maybe I might just leave it as a Guild Services voucher and let the = player
decide how many potions to get.
