Reply-To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz Seagate Guild of Adventurers Guild Meeting Minutes - Spring 800 WK Two things to note this season. We weren't washed away and the Dark Circle has been knocked back another 50 miles. The border is now halfway between here and Brasta. Adventures going out 1) Rupai - A short wizened man, who is part sage, wanted a party to retake a his home - a flying castle - which had been captured by orcs etc, about ten days ago. Their banner consisted of a red claw against a putrid yellow background. He wants the castle back in twenty days before it disappears off-plane. The castle has an automated defense system aimed at dragons and rocs and an internal power source consisting of pure mana. It's currently located 150 miles south of the Guild and flyers are advised. Pay is 5000sp per person. (Phil, High, Monday, to be run at Lisa's place at Methuan Road). 2) Sir Christopher - Human male 5'10" Gabrielite guild member. Since he had a Doom put upon him he had been having trouble with his personal reputation as Michaelines and people skilled in weapons kept hating him on sight. So he wants the Doom modified. Pay is 10000sp a head. (Thursday, Avondale at Andrew's. Clare is the GM). 3) A Guild Rep - A messenger raven arrived with a letter. The former Baron Agastino De La Forte requires assistance to go and see the pope. He's very sick and was excommunicated from the Church, vfor attacking an abby during the last war, and now seeks absolution. Necromancers and Wiccans need not apply and polite people are preferred. (Tuesday, Kelsie, Sandringham, Low) 4) The formally late Lord Arondel - A shabby looking human in his mid 60s with white hair. He wants a party to explore a forest for his new employers, the Plane Builders. Vapour breathings are required and subtle people are wanted. There was a monastery of Mind Mages in there but there is no suggestion of vampirism however there may be Calimar involvement. (Greg, low/medium, Wednesdays) 5) Another Guild Rep - The Guild aren't allowing anyone from the Butlers into the grounds any more. They are requesting a group but it always seems that they end up doing something else than what was originally advertised. So the Guild want the selected group to find out just what the Butlers are up to this time. They say that they want the party to evict some overstayers from a castle. They specifically requested 5 people. The Guild are paying 5000sp per piece of info. (Mandos, Thursday, Elleslie) 6) Lord Hait - An elvish warrior carrying a huge axe. Four years ago they had recovered an artifact but it has since been stolen by a bunch of dwarves from Helmfast. The item is the 60' long Staff of the Titans and the elves want it back but 'if a titan shows up, we will gratefully hand it over'. (William, Blockhouse Bay, Wednesday, Medium) 7) Guild Security - A youth turned up with a Border Collie dog. The dog was a person who was cursed and needed the assistance of five people to see a bear about it. Payment is 100sp each + items. (Very low, Mondays, Westmere, Sally) Jacqui's bunny adventure is still running. Because of the lack of players, Mandos and Phil canceled their adventures. Awards Bravest Adventurer Turf - The party encountered a desecrated Church of Chantris and encountered what they initially thought was a drow Turf boldly leapt forward and discovered it was an undead lich. So he engaged it to tie it up. In another encounter, he moved to block damage heading towards Father Rowan. Rek - They encountered a hideous troll creature that reflected damage. Rek used a dragonflames which did damage and bounced back. Anooke - He leapt on to a half demon dog which carried him off. When next time the creature was encountered, he still leapt on it to hold it down. Winner - Anooke Smartest Adventurer Brightflare - The party encountered a troll beast that was guarding a chest of money. They failed in their initial attack so, when the money was loaded on board a ship, Brightflare suggested sneaking on board and carrying the money off. T.D.P. - While the party were attacked by a bunch of orcs, led by a troll, TDP slept the troll and the orcs surrendered. Ithimore - After the party hosed down a bunch of githyanki, the house founder issued a challenge to the party. So Turf was tanked up with spells/potions etc then the party discovered that the house founder was a death knight and if he lost, the whole house would attack. Turf did win but Ithimore released an Enjoyable Ending on the crowd. Swen - The portal that the party found in the Dark Circle was on top of a hill and the undead were advancing up the hill. Swen cast a Saturated Earth spell, causing a mud slide which washed the undead away. In another incident, since the party had a captured Earth Mage, he suggested they use him to create an Earth Elemental and attack the underwater sahuagan base from underneath. Lady Kathleen - While the party was in a dungeon, she was using one hand to spell cast and the other one to sip tea. Kern - Lady Kathleen had been coerced to go underground to meet with the spiders. Kern used an Earth Elemental to make a shortcut. Winner - Ithimore Best Death Killramadram (Drum) - Two out of three times, he had his head removed. Maevre - coercing the local wind to knock over several orcs by daring it (maybe this should have been smartest) Winner - Killramadram Stupidest Adventurer Basalic - While in a place where anything you thought of would happen, he wondered what an object was and concluded it was nothing important. It was a cube of darkness and took his hand off. Killramadram - When Father Rowan said that the party was suffering from an affliction, Drum started calling out 'Unclean!' Winner - Basalic Star of Alusia For the above incident, Ithimore was a possible candidate but there was a chance that some of the party could have escaped. Roll of Honour None Notices Potions that go into the Dark Circle may go off. If they smell of arsenic then they're poisonous. Amulets of Jasper are now available that are extremely effective against Undead The Sweetwater Bridge is still under repair from the tidal wave A Church of Chantris has been established in the Dark Circle. An area around it of 15 miles radius is free of the Dark Circle's influence. The grain supply is wholly under Ducal control and there is a shortage of grain products such as bread, flour etc. Milk supplies and derivatives are also in short supply. However there is no shortage of luxury items such as coffee, chocolate etc. Meeting Closed -- to unsubscribe see http://www.kurahaupo.gen.nz/mailing-lists.html -- From owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Mon Sep 18 12:14:13 2000 Received: (from bin@localhost) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-20000829) id MAA24756; Mon, 18 Sep 2000 12:02:42 +1200 Received: from smtp4.ihug.co.nz (smtp4.ihug.co.nz [203.109.252.5]) by mail.sf.org.nz (8.8.6/NZSFI-20000829) with ESMTP id MAA24753 for ; Mon, 18 Sep 2000 12:02:38 +1200 Received: from work.ihug.co.nz (p217-tnt7.akl.ihug.co.nz [203.109.203.217]) by smtp4.ihug.co.nz (8.9.3/8.9.3/Debian/GNU) with ESMTP id LAA02001 for ; Mon, 18 Sep 2000 11:59:46 +1200 Message-Id: <4.3.2.7.0.20000918120128.00ab9750@pop.ihug.co.nz> X-Sender: phaeton@pop.ihug.co.nz (Unverified) X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Version 4.3.2 Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2000 12:04:18 +1200 Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed Subject: Fax number for the Library and SGT From: Keith Smith To: dq-announce@dq.sf.org.nz Sender: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Errors-To: owner-dq@dq.sf.org.nz Precedence: bulk X-Loop: dq-announce@dq.sf.org.nz X-Requests: To unsubscribe from this list, or change your subscription address, send a request to dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz. Reply-To: dq@dq.sf.org.nz Dear all, Quote from Herbalist 38[.0]: "Potions are always roughly a quart per dose and weigh with their container ½ pound." Actually a quart of water weighs just over 2 lb, *without* its container. Btw, as a relic of pre-metric times explaining those new-fangled units, a "kilogram" was said to be the approximate equivalent of a full pint bottle of milk (i.e. milk & glass bottle). Furthermore, drinking a quart [i.e. quarter of a gallon; the volume of about one & a third bottles of wine] doesn't agree with most fantasy sources. At least you needn't worry about a potion being "slipped" into your wine. As for sculling a quart in 1 pulse ... Corrections/discussion welcomed. I personally prefer herbalist "potions" to of more medicinal volumes (a nip, an ounce or two, ...) In comparison, Waters of Healing & Waters of strength are half a pint (about 2/3 of a bottle of wine) -- hence about half a pound weight, WITHOUT container, if approximately the density of typically imbibable substances (water, wine, beer). regards, Michael (who's now in the mood for opening a bottle of something red). ====================================== -- to unsubscribe see http://www.kurahaupo.gen.nz/mailing-lists.html --
