Don't count me in that everyone. I think the combat system works fine.
It aint perfect, but I doubt any replacement would be any better, and
would just cause no-end of pain and annoyance.

Count me out too :-)

I think combat is fine. Initiative is another issue but I personally think
we can all have our own ways of doing it and let players know how it is
going to work at the start of the session, thus it dosn't need fixing either
:-)

To all who have offered assistance, a great big thank you :-)

I have a number of suggestions which I will be going through to locate the
one that best fits what I am trying to do.

I will be in touch should the solutions I have not work. Thanks for the
great response :-)

Which makes Crude Club a reasonably appropriate choice although I was
assuming that the baby holder would prefer not to swing it.

(Martin's rule of thumb on DQ brawling -- up to the size of a chair,
swung or thrown = crude club, small items (bottles, tankards, etc) swung
or thrown = rock).

Could be treated like a greek fire grenado with no damage, but requiring
a 3xWP check to avoid nausea.

I'm somewhat fence-sitting on this one. The combat system is okay as far as
it goes - but there are areas where it doesn't go far enough. It doesn't
cater for "called shots" for example.

Sure, but in the case of called shots (for example) it's pretty easy for a GM
to figure out an appropriate penalty and apply it. OK, so hitting *this*
villian in the head isn't the same as hitting *that* villain, but then why
should it be?

Called Shots is a perfect example of something that should not be
encapsulated in the rules.
Systems that allow Called Shots generally have some sort of benefit for
calling them, like if you call a head shot and get it then they generally
die instantly. These systems are usually location based for armour and
damage as well.

In a game you usually want to do Called Shots for character style (Dwarves
that always go for the kneecaps), to exploit a specific weakness in
significant bad guys, or to achieve a special effect. And usually the best
way to handle this is BDE administered by the GM.
