Might I ask whether you've read the version of Summoner in the rule book recently? Because one of the things which I found frustrating about the college was its narrowness. As far as I could see there were very few things Summoners could do directly, especially if the Summoner was relatively inexperienced. All of their cool stuff depended on what they could get out of the Greater Demons they called. So what if the Summoner hadn't learned to do that yet? It's Special Knowledge, after all. Furthermore, extremely badly written and extremely vague do not equate. Once you wade through the morass of verbiage, it wasn't that vague at all. Just complicated. So I gave my Summoner a whole bunch of new, and deliberately vague abilities, in particular the ability to summon non-sentient denizens of the lower planes. It worked out quite well, as I explained at the meeting, so I've shared it with the group. Jacqui -- to unsubscribe notify mailto:dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz -- |

A more accurate term would be re-codify - and primarily for my own use. The College of Greater Summoners, like all Colleges, have their abilities codified in the rules. As they stand they're tighter than they need to be for an NPC college. For example, in the existing rules, a Summoner may be given one of two specific types of lesser demon as a companion, but has no means of summoning them. I figured it would be much more fun if they could summon lesser demons - of whatever type they've learned the GTN for. So I gave my Summoner a ritual to achieve exactly that.
