Subject[dq-announce] On-Line Character Pages Are Back!
FromStephen Martin

After a 5+ year absence, the character pages are back in a new format on a new
host.
A backup of the previous data has been restored and is mowstlee akkurat but
some updates are required.
The URL is:
http://www.dragonquest.org.nz/pc/dq_login.php3

Many of you will have logins already, your login name will be your first name
or your first name plus first initial of your surname. E.g. stephen or stephenm

Your password will be: blort
I suggest that you change your password once you have logged in (Maintain Personal
Details).

If you don't have a login, there is a link for adding yourself as a new user
that is displayed after a failed login attempt.

Look and feel wise... I have never been accused of building the most beautiful
websites in the world, but I have built in the ability to select the stylesheet
you prefer.
Pick a stylesheet from the list in the top right corner and the page will dynamically
change its appearance. Your selection will be saved in a cookie on your PC
and be applied every time you visit. This functionality uses JavaScript and
Cookies - if you have these turned off then it won't work - you'll have to put
up with the default style.
If anyone has basic CSS skills (Cascading Style Sheets) and wants to submit
a new style, I can send you copies of the existing css files to use as a starting
point.

There will be changes happening at random times based on my available time &
enthusiasm.
I welcome all suggestions for improvements and any bug reports but make no guarantees
on response/delivery times.
I will offer a money back guarantee and take personal checks or credit cards
with specimen signatures. :)

If you want to contribute enhancements, the site is built using PHP3.0.18 &
MySQL (similar vintage). Contact me for a copy of the source and database schema.
I retain the right to veto changes to the existing functionality that I have
built.
Mandos (our host) & his Sysadmin have the right to veto inappropriate content.
I'm betting the iconz hosting policies are more restrictive than Mandos' moral/ethical
constraints. :)

Enjoy, have fun. This info and site is here for our interest and entertainment.
Think of it as something along the lines of the guild roster, it's not available
in-game to anyone outside the guild, but as it is information you are reporting
to the guild it should be true and accurate but no-one expects the whole truth
or full disclosure.

Cheers, Stephen.

Thanks!

Who wants the error message from when I tried to add a character?

Before I put my work email address on it, is it reasonably secure from
address-crawlers?

Error messages directly to me please, no need to clog up the list with them.

The data is all stored in a MySQL database, the pages are dynamically generated
after a successful login.
I'm not claiming to be an expert on web crawlers but I believe it should be
safe from them. They would have to sniff the packets during transmission or
read them from a server cache - both of which require the collusion of a server
host between your ISP and Iconz.
