i just got two A2 hex sheets printed and laminated.
A friend created the hexes using autocad and then printed them on a sheet printer. If i asked really nicely, he will probably print some more at cost (he has no known vices so bribery doesn't work).
laminating cost $13.00 for the two.
they are a good size (not so big as to be unmanagemeable) and worth doing.
