Subject[dq-pub] Gabrielites at the Gates
FromStephen Martin
DateMon, 20 Sep 2004 12:42:25 +1200 (NZST)
Caught up on the SGT and found a disturbing article on the back page.
Apparently some church knight was planning to spend the day or so of the guild meeting camped
outside our gates so they could capture people on their hate list. Or anyone else they felt like
assaulting no doubt.

The problem with this is that they will bully our junior members which we can't stand for. And
they will probably get killed if they bother any of our senior members or anyone on their hate
list. While they are bringing this on themselves, it will probably result in a bunch of nutters
causing trouble for all of us for the "unjust and demonic murder of their colleagues".
The guild has a policy of abiding by the laws of the lands we pass through. If these knights have
proof that our members have broken local laws then they should formally submit their proof to the
guild. But it seems to me they have no proof and consider themselves above local law.

To prevent any regrettable incidents I will be maintaining the peace on the road between the guild
and new seagate on the day of the guild meeting and the day after if the church knights persist.
I would welcome anyone who wants to join me, the mandate is to stop any incidents with the minimum
of violence.
Any guild members who initiate any attacks on the kights or provoke them into a fight will be
returned to the guild for guild justice or the Duke's justice as deemed appropriate by the guild.
Any non-members who initiate attacks will be restrained and handed over to the town guard, to be
charged and dealt with according to the Duke's justice.
If anything does get out of hand and anyone is hurt or killed then I will heal and or resurrect
them before handing them over to the appropriate authority.

I will also be sending a message to the Duke requesting his assistance if possible and his
sanction for the peace keeping.

- Braegon.

Whilst I am sure the Gabrielites (Are we sure they aren't Michaeline
nutters?) will act responsibly to all travellers apart from those they are
looking for, I agree we need to keep some sort of watch on their
activities and protect any of our 'younger less travelled' guild members.

I too will be looking out on the nearby roads and assisting where
necessary in any confrontations. Some will see me while others will be
blissfully unaware of my presence. I will check in with Braegon daily.

My thanks for your assistance Roke. I am not certain that this person is a real Gabrielite but
they claim to be one.

I intend to ensure that they act responsibly towards all travellers whether they are on their list
or not. If this Francis has a case against one of our members then he can present it to the guild
or to the Duke if he prefers. But it seems to me that he does not have a case, he appears to be
engaged in a personal crusade against some of our members based on anonymous rumour.

Just in case you have misplaced your copy of the SGT I have included the complete message below.
But this is the key portion:
"We will have a detachment of knights station outside your mercenary premises at your next meeting
so we may take the corrupt worshipers into custody and bring them to the light.
Francis de Sales
Gabrielite Commander, Redemption Calvary"

Attention Mercenaries,
By the grace of you Duke we are opening a permanent
stronghold in your fair city of Seagate to further protect
against the scourge of the Dark Circle. If has come to our
attention that your mercenary guild is populated by filthy,
dirty, corrupt worshipers of demons and undead.
We intend to cleanse your city of such filth, and have
conducted interviews with citizens of Seagate, seeking the
following member of your guild for confession of their
demonic and undead affiliations:
Bainbridge the Undertaker, Balode, Blackrod,Doroin,
Dramus, Faith, Ned Tanner, Neroc, Retsum, Sabbath,
Sau Rus, Scorpion
If the above listed believe they have been misrepresented as
corrupt worshipers they should immediately approach us to
clarify their situation.
We offer a plenary indulgence in addition to a reward of
100sp to any individuals that capture and deliver us these
corrupt, foul beings. We seek them alive, if possible, so they
can confess and repent prior to their mortal coil expiring.
Any information about the above individuals, or any other
depraved demon or undead worshipers of your guild, are
welcome. All informants will be treated with complete
anonymity. We will have a detachment of knights station
outside your mercenary premises at your next meeting so we
may take the corrupt worshipers into custody and bring
them to the light.
Francis de Sales
Gabrielite Commander, Redemption Calvary

"Oh my,

Neroc and Dramus, Sabbath and Scorpion.

Boy oh boy, do these guys have a real death wish or what.

Well Dramus might be able to not kill them, but over half the rest wouldn't
be so restrained.

And I'm sure Dramus will top that paltry 100sp reward.

I wish to congratulate Braegon and associates in seeing that the guild is
not unduly associated with their idiotic* and suicidal tendencies.

Around midday on the 2nd, a couple of guild members holding a tiny
smoking bag coming running out of one of the guild rooms and, after a
brief altercation with the gate guards, run through the gate to just in
front of the Gabrielite knights. The sack is dropped, and a four foot
black sphere with two blazing fiery eyes appears. The two guild members
fall prone, but are dragged back inside. The Gabrielite Knights
investigate, and most fall to their knees, worshipping the heathen
object. The other knights, and such stalwarts as Braegon and Kern, help
them away. After a minute, the huge black sphere shrinks to a small
blackened crystal ball.

There are many shrieks of excitement from said adventurers, who are
talked to sternly by guild security and are being ushered away before
Braegon and Kern return from assisting the Gabrielite Knights.

The Gabrielite Knights decide to engage the better part of their valour,
but vow to return at a later date.

Enquiries with guild security will reveal that the trouble-maker Sally
(a well-known alias for many illusionists) and the usually morose Lucius
were responsible for this practical joke. They claim it was a backfire
of Illusory Rock while scrying the Dark Circle, but Sally can't stop
giggling.

Andrew (GM of Lucius and "Sally")

I find it disturbing that you miss Dorion from your list of the dangerous,
he was once my apprentice and I think it is a poor reflexion on my teachings
that he is not considered significantly more dangerous that Sabbath and
Scorpion.

I am not sure I have coins that deal with amounts that small.

I would offer to assist but suspect my presence might be a disruption to the
peace.

Dramus.
