While I support the idea of unusual treasures, and recipes involving them
which can be researched by PCs, I am not at all sure that I want to be
presented with a list of set recipes for use. That both restricts GM
creativity, never a beneficial thing, and could lead to all sorts of
abuse... the harvesting of non-aggressive monsters for body parts... PCs
running off in all directions and "off the map" in search of monsters with
valuable bits....

I much prefer the scenario where character A is searching for herbs to
enhance dinner, finds something unusual, gets it back to the guild,
researches it, and then the GM gives them a recipe for its use, after
checking it over with other GMs. Or party B kills the basilisk that has
been terrorising the village, and then learns from the village wisewoman
that there is perhaps some use for its horn, if they can find an alchemist
who knows the recipe.

Alchemical recipes were traditionally closely guarded.... in a magical
world this is even more likely, which presents with one reason why the
secrets of shaping are so rare. The village wisewoman might have a herbal
recipe for removing warts which she passed on to her daughters, and would
only share with the wisewoman from the next village in exchange for an
equally useful recipe, and not with a bunch of untrustworthy adventurers.

What I think we need is not a recipe book, but a set of guidelines for the
creation of recipes....

(Heck, while we're at it, some guidelines for shaped items would not
hurt.... I might be keen on creativity, but I've seen some hideously
unbalanced items and abilities out there.... er...um.... I probably have a
few on some of my own PCs.)

Thank you all for you Comments and Feedback.

I will continue to work on Recipe Magic's idea and I will attempt to keep
you informed. Once I have the supporting documents at a point that I will
seek you Comment and Feedback once more.

The fears are objections that some people expressed, have been noted and I
will seek to address them.

I expect that it will be a couple of week before I can show you the needed
supporting documents. Once I am ready I will post and again seek you Comment
and Feedback.

Again - thank you for you comments and feedback. If anyone wants to talk to
me about this my home number is 828-2959.

A few people have lately been asking who's on the DQ lists. Rather than
answer one at a time, here's the current list (names where we have them,
otherwise just the user-part of the email address):
