Subject[dq] Reading the night sky

I am currently playing a new solar celestial and was wondering what
people think of a minor change to this ritual for solar mages to allow
it to be a solar reading requiring a clear view of the sun and a clear
day & possibly protection from light to avoid going blind.

Just a flavour thing.

Cheers Noel

Is there any history of solar astronomy in the real world? I would be
keener on this idea if there were.

Didn't the Chinese do this kind of thing. They went blind...

I don't think the sun is good for very short term predictions. The most
recent I have heard is that the amount of reported violence increases during
periods of intense sun spots (11 year cycle).

Personally I recon the amount of violence goes up just after each guild
meeting, but that the amount of reported violence goes down at the same
time. Go figure.

Now a predictive method based on clouds and rainbows would be good. "it is
about to rain heavily"

:-D

Let's see, Stone henge one giant solar observatory use to predict when to
plant, when the longest day of the year is and that sort of thing. There are
a number of others but it the best known.
The Aztecs or Mayans had dragons appear on their temples using shadows and
the sun as signs at certain times of the year.

The movement of the sun is just as observed though history as the other
stars it's just that its observable cycle is a year, where as Stars and
Planets take a lot longer, so mainly it was used to mark the changes of the
seasons rather than to predict the birth of kings or whatever.
