If the plan was to ditch the discount once one, or both, of the skills
changed substantially -- and the reason for the discount was removed. And
this plan was voted in (per Andrew), and now Spy has been voted in... is
there any reason to believe that the discount _should_ be retained?

Or is it obvious from the previous vote that with the inclusion of new Spy
in the rules the cross-over discount must perforce be dropped?

Doesn't seem at all fast or loose to me to go this path.

Cheers,
Martin

Can someone point me to a page in the wiki that has something similar (say 3
columns, with multiple lines within cells)? I want to get a feel of how much
hassle the actual data entry would be. The couple of table examples I found
only have a single line in each cell.

I presume if a Wiki table cell is anything like an HTML one, then any
extra text that would exceed the cell boundaries should wrap to the
next line within the cell. Hence, multi line entry should be reasonably simple.

Of course, I could be wrong ...

Have a look at my user page on the wiki, I've added a couple of 3 column multi line tables as an
example.

That's very useful, thanks.

Looking at the stuff about widths
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Table#Setting_your_column_widths

If I specify the widths (as would seem a good idea for this exercise),
what's a good max total to specify - 700 pixels? (checking it looks OK on my
wide-screen laptop won't help much!)

Time to download OpenOffice 2.0 I think.

Cheers

To my experience, typically you can define widths an percentages of the total screen, so it comes out spaced equally regardless of screen width, even if not the same amount of pixels.

SubjectRe: [dq] Wiki Help - 3 Column Table
FromStephen Martin
DateWed, 9 Nov 2005 13:43:55 +1300 (NZDT)
Generally my advice is not to set specific widths, or if you must then use percentages as this
allows the browser to resize the content to best-fit the end users screen.

One reason to use specific absolute-measure widths is when you want to force a wide display even
if the users screen is not big enough. Most of the time, most browsers cope with this and will
add horizontal scroll bars so the page can be scrolled to see all of the content. The big
downside to this is that then you often can't print the page as it is too wide for the paper.

But to answer your specific question, it depends...
You could optimise for 800x600 which is a safe lowest level (VERY few people still use 640x480).
Or you could assume that most people use at least 1024x768 (which I'll go with).
The side bar in the wiki uses about 100px, and you need to allow 20-30px for window borders,
scroll bars, etc. This leaves us about 900px to play with.
If you want one column displaying at a time then 900px is your width. If you want to see two side
by side then 450px is your limit. If you want to see 3 columns then 330px each.

Cheers, Stephen.

Any idea of the wiki syntax for %age? The wiki example uses Width=nnnpx for
pixels, plus Width="nnn" (which looks to be pixels, or may be 10ths of a %?
Points?). I assume a OK HTML editor will include this sort of thing in the
help.

Default looks to be longest text, but it will wrap at some stage. For this
exercise we would like the 'Old' and 'New' columns to be the same, so
leaving it to the browser/wiki unspecified logic to make a call is probably
unwise.

Right, so eg 100px for Rulebook section num etc, then 380px and 380px

Using percents just lose the trailing zero.

An alternative to the table is to just list down the page:

Section#, para#, sentence#
"Old text"
"New text"

but once the table setup is done, adding a | to the start of each line, and
|- between edit items should give a good readability of output payoff for
reasonably small additional wiki-editing hassle.

Hi all,

I am really enjoying Jon McSpaddens extreme level game he is running centred
around Rashak and TDC. I also realy like the system and style of scribe
notes that Andrew Luxton put out on the wiki. I think they are very helpful.
The URL is:
            http://www.dragonquest.org.nz/dqwiki/index.php/Not_all_water_is_
wet

Jono

And also;
In the hope that when we make it back to Seagate to change suits of armour;
I am (Engalton is ) wondering is there any highly ranked armours about at
the guild three days after the guild meeting on the 3rd at about 4pm that
are looking for work?

Also I am looking for ways to remove high MA curses off people, and does
anyone have any form of protection from death curses or any way of repairing
armour quickly in combat?

Thanks
Engalton

FromStephen Martin

Standard html units of measure apply.
Percentage is defined by a % suffix.  E.g. width=50%
Cell width is assumed to be in pixels unless you specify another format. E.g. width=100 ==
width=100px

Other UOMs you can use are..
Relative:
    * em (ems, the height of the element's font)
    * ex (x-height, the height of the letter "x")
    * px (pixels, relative to the canvas resolution)
Absolute:
    * in (inches; 1in=2.54cm)
    * cm (centimeters; 1cm=10mm)
    * mm (millimeters)
    * pt (points; 1pt=1/72in)
    * pc (picas; 1pc=12pt)

For this I would suggest widths of 10% for the section number and 45% for each of the other two
columns. NB These are percentages of the table width, not the screen size.

This is my favourite online HTML syntax reference.

[OOC but the pub seemed more appropriate than the main list]

Binder General Spell: Mending can be used to quickly repair spec grev damage in armour but the
standard Armourer repair rules apply, to repair the armour to its former quality the caster must
have sufficient skill to create such armour. In my experience this is usually played as reducing
the effective rank of the armour to that of the caster until it is properly repaired by someone
with sufficient skill.
There is also a target weight limit on the spell, but rk 6 (70 lbs) covers most armour.
Mending does not restore magic to magic armour that has lost its mojo, and may not work on magic
armour that is still enchanted.

The guild binder (Hyram Tallfellow) is a toymaker by trade and preference, from memory he has some
skill in Mechanician but minimal skill in anything as practical as Armourer.

Thaeuss is a Rk 4 Armourer, has Rk 6 Mending, does not invest, and will be within locate range of
the guild on the 3rd and contactable. P.O.A. but traditionally he charges extortionately.

I can't speak for the Armourer skill of any other Binders.

The standard time for Armourers to fix armour without the use of magic is 0.5 days (for
cloth/leather) to 20 days (for mithril). So your chances of getting it repaired overnight are
slim.

Cheers, Stephen.

I can do up to MA 42 Curses and my base chance is excellent.

I will not be around on the 3rd but if you are still looking a week or two
later I may be around.

For people fighting the DC they are of course free.

Sorry, Rowan cant help you there either. Although she has one more rank in
mending than Thaeuss, she has no skill in Armorer.
I hope she will be gainfully employed (by someone other than Engalton) by
the Third.
It been a very productive spring but she needs a holiday, unfortunately it
will have to be a working holiday as she has very little cash. (And no Ep
left and without Ep she can't do any more ranking.)

Helen
