Yes
Glissom is normal run by Jon McSpadden ph 8285154 and he is happy for other
GMs to run games there.
A few Characters are involved in the small royal court at Glissom, and
Erowhan is just over the river (also PC controlled).

Stephen Martin is the only GM to run a game (around 8 years ago) in
Cauldersfield.

Subject[dq-announce] Binder & Illusionist Permanency - Changes for Voting
FromStephen Martin
DateMon, 21 Nov 2005 11:11:35 +1300 (NZDT)
Following discussions several months ago, these changes are proposed for voting at the December
Guild Meeting.
Exact Wording is on the wiki
http://www.dragonquest.org.nz/dqwiki/index.php/Proposed_Rule_Changes#Material_Components_and_Binder.2FIllusionist_Permanency_Rituals

This is summarised version:
1. Magic Section: Specifying that by default, Ritual Materials are used up regardless of the
success or failure of the ritual.

2. Giving both rituals an "Extend" option that extends the duration of affected spells to days
(based on ritual rank) without using material components.

3. Increase the cast chance of Illusion from MA+2/rk to MA+4/rk to be comparable with Binder of
20+4/Rk.

4. Specify the range for the Binder ritual, same as Illusion, 5 feet.

5. Remove bit in Illusion specifying components are not used on failure so that the default (as
above) applies. Binder already does not specify.

Remaining differences:
Minor BC diff MA vs 20%
Illusion EM 150 higher (550 vs 400)
Illusion Permanence is counterspellable by adept, Binder is not.
Illusion is cheaper, costs 5k, Binder costs 10k/20k/30k for Gen Spells/Spec Spells/Rituals.

Cheers, Stephen.

How will these be voted on? All-or-nothing, or broken down in some way?

Cheers

I don't see any issues with any of it so my preference is all at once to save time.
But then it could be said that I'm biased. :)

If someone has a deal-breaker issue with part of the changes but supports the others then ideally
they should be split (depending on the issue). If anyone falls into this category then speak up
now.
If not then let's go with the minimum of beaurocracy and vote once.

Cheers, Stephen.

I would think either all or nothing or break out the Extend option and
have all rest of the changes under a "Tidy and make consistent" vote
and then vote to add the Extend option.

My preference would be for all-or-nothing however. Takes less time as
long as everyone has read /discussed the changes.

TTFN, Struan.

Subject[dq] Curse
FromMandos Mitchinson
DateMon, 21 Nov 2005 13:09:48 +1300
Major curse has been edited at some point in a previous edition to now
also have a target as object.

While I like the idea of Major curse effecting items and think it adds
something to the game, it appears to be a contentious addition.

I am guessing it was done as part of a tidy and never voted on so I
present it to the group for discussion.

I have recently come up with some guidelines for the use of curse on
items that I can put forward if we deciede to keep the target object.

Hi Stephen,

I assume there is a reason for the remaining differences? teh costs seem quite different, are the binder spells etc so much more powerful?

No, for the most part they are not more powerful. I can't recall why the Binder costs were set so
high in the first place, possibly there was a reason, possibly it seemed like a good idea at the
time.
I thought about making the costs similar but could see no good reason to change it and there might
be valid reasons not to change it.

The end result is that Illusionists pay more XP, Binders pay more money.

Permanent Illusions being Counterspellable and Binder magics not - make Binder things seem more
solid, and Illusions a little more ephemeral. And a small benefit to the Illusionists in exchange
for the extra 150em.

% base is close enough, not worth changing.

not sure i like the idea of being able to remove the curse from an item. especially treasure.

many times the curse is what makes the item balanced or less than useful. And making it an MA 50 curse will just encourage Dramus to take out another morgage against his soul. :-D

Shaped items with a curse on them wouldn't be removable with remove
curse. I would suspect that only items with Major curse cast on them
would be removable.

My guess is part of the reason the costs are high to discorrage "Cheating"
on the creation time with the golem creation ritual.
Many golems take days even weeks to make by ritual, to the point where the
option of making one for a few hours by spell and then permancing it looks
good until you realise it will cost around 20'000sp
24 days and 1,000sp plus the iron vs just over an hour and 20,000sp plus the
iron, for a 6 ft iron golem, you pay big time for speed.

SubjectRe: [dq] Players Guide V3 - GM contact details
FromStephen Martin
DateMon, 21 Nov 2005 16:15:03 +1300 (NZDT)
stephen.martin@infinity.net.nz is not quite right, but I'd prefer not to get DQ emails coming to
work, while a blind eye is usually turned to personal emails, strictly speaking we're not supposed
to get/send them.
Please change my email address to
stephenm@aklnz.net

I am happy to have this in the print edition of the guide but prefer not to have it in plain text
on the wiki. While the instructions have been set so that robots should not browse the wiki,
spammers don't always follow the rules.

Cheers, Stephen.

Thanks for your comments - they were very helpful.

I intend to add bookmarks before I send out the PDF.
