It's a means to keep track of whats going on in the
adventure week to week. They also provide the means
for other parties travelling through an area to get an
idea of 1 gm thought should be there, and to also get
an idea of what type of style a particular GM favours.

Every now and again. I tend to look at previous games
a particular GM has run when I am entering their game
to get an idea of what I might expect (A dungeon bash
compared to a very political game etc)

Also if the party is going off plane I tend to look at
the scribe notes from any other games that have gone
to that plane and skim them for anything weird.
