This is a multi-part message in MIME format. ------_=_NextPart_001_01C66A5E.817860FF Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable > Should Greater Curse be able to be used on Items? What would cursing an item with Greater Curse do?=20 =20 (a) Make a shaped cursed item like a sword I think this is shaping, and previous posts about removing curses on items explain clearly why its bad as an available mechanic. =20 (b) Curse the item so it is detrmentally afected. This is a "negative-effort-for-the-object" permanent, size-changing transmutation. eg. aging a door so it crumbles, turning a chair into a footstool, "The lock is now a muffin, I open the door." I'm not sure that this ability is needed as a non-colleged spell. =20 (c) storing a curse so it can be transmitted to a person. This is a magical trap, and the EN cost should be paid for the entity-effect. No object target needed. =20 So, I can't see any reason why item cursing is needed. If someone can explain what it should do, and why its needed, I'm interested. Plain "yes" votes aren't useful unless they clearly say what type of object curse they mean. =20 Andrew ------_=_NextPart_001_01C66A5E.817860FF Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>Message</TITLE> <META http-equiv=3DContent-Type content=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <META content=3D"MSHTML 6.00.2800.1528" name=3DGENERATOR></HEAD> <BODY> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial size=3D2><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006>>=20 </SPAN></FONT>Should Greater Curse be able to be used on = Items?</DIV><FONT=20 face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff size=3D2></FONT><FONT face=3DArial = color=3D#0000ff=20 size=3D2></FONT> <DIV><BR><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial = color=3D#0000ff=20 size=3D2>What would cursing an item with Greater Curse do? = </FONT></SPAN></DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2></FONT></SPAN> </DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2>(a)=20 Make a shaped cursed item like a sword</FONT></SPAN></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial><FONT color=3D#0000ff><FONT size=3D2><SPAN=20 class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT>I think this is shaping, and previous = posts about=20 removing curses on items </FONT></SPAN>e<SPAN=20 class=3D405384700-28042006>xplain clearly why its bad as an available=20 mechanic.</SPAN></FONT></FONT></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial><FONT color=3D#0000ff><FONT size=3D2><SPAN=20 class=3D405384700-28042006></SPAN></FONT></FONT></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial><FONT color=3D#0000ff size=3D2><SPAN=20 class=3D405384700-28042006>(b) Curse the item so it is detrmentally=20 afected.</SPAN></FONT></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial><FONT color=3D#0000ff size=3D2><SPAN=20 class=3D405384700-28042006>This is a "negative-effort-for-the-object" = permanent,=20 size-changing transmutation.</SPAN></FONT></FONT></DIV> <DIV><FONT face=3DArial><FONT color=3D#0000ff><FONT size=3D2><SPAN=20 class=3D405384700-28042006>eg. </SPAN><SPAN = class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT>aging a=20 door so it crumbles, turning a chair into a footstool,=20 </FONT></SPAN></FONT></FONT></FONT><SPAN = class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT=20 face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff size=3D2>"The lock is now a muffin, I open = the=20 door."</FONT></SPAN></DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2>I'm=20 not sure that this ability is needed as a non-colleged=20 spell.</FONT></SPAN></DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2></FONT></SPAN> </DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2>(c)=20 storing a curse so it can be transmitted to a = person.</FONT></SPAN></DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2>This=20 is a magical trap, and the EN cost should be paid for the entity-effect. = No=20 object target needed.</FONT></SPAN></DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2></FONT></SPAN> </DIV> <DIV><SPAN class=3D405384700-28042006><FONT face=3DArial color=3D#0000ff = size=3D2>So, I=20 can't see any reason why item cursing is needed. > > Should Greater Curse be able to be used on Items? Yes, in my opinion. >What would cursing an item with Greater Curse do? I think that the curse should effect the performance of the object or its wielder/possessor ... but ONLY while they possess it. Anything analogous to ill-luck [e.g., Weapon that is -20 to hit], or a doom, or even *some* afflictions [e.g., a cursed gem that afflicts its possessor with clumsiness, or partial deafness, or *serious* ill-health]. Clearly such curses are suited for malevolent, waspish charachters, not the heroes of Seagate ... but even a semi-virtuous PC may find it occassionally helpful ... e.g., a cart that is likely to be bogged down in the mud (handy if you want to sabotage the opposition; and somewhat more subtle than merely blowing it up or turning it into ash). Formal guidelines *would* be helpful. Failing that, as always, the GM concerned has the final say. I would like it *if* one could insert confortable GTN related "Holes" in the curses -- e.g. Weapon is -20 expect in the hand of a dwarf; a gem that makes only Hobbits or goblins clumsy; etc -- to unsubscribe notify mailto:dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz -- |
