Hi All,

Thanks to those that contributed to our alternative newsletter while the
editors were in absence. We burnt the midnight oil to finish and as a
consequence some chaotic editing occurred, as Im sure you noticed. Quite a
few of the UK crew pitching in and helping bring this home, thanks to them
as well.

Any and all feedback is welcome, as you never know when you'll see another
issue of the SSST. :-)

Does anyone know who ran this adventure. I dont remember doing it
myself, and I only recognise Nendil. Plus I think it was only a couple
of years ago. However all the background is right.

Whoever ran that game has the Book of Ildris!!! (and probably my
notes). Clare played in it. Not sure who else, I dont recognise any of
the names. But lots of my background is there in the notes. Which
feels quite weird, remembering stuff, going oh yeah... but then
realizing I was not involved. Strange.

Had these people on it

The team
Nendil Water Mage Leader
Ms Hillborne Namer Military Scientist
Loxi (Me) Earth Mage Scribe
Aurora Air Mage
Sven Water Mage
Hammer Rune Mage (Fully =96 Hammer of the gods)
Bedevier An extremely talented dog.

Well yes -there were for example quite a few editing errors in the interview
with GoK! I'm sure it was all just a slip of the pen. Perhaps next time
you could slip the other way. :-) Also we clearly need better records of
awards - my personal count is 5x stupidest death (but not in the last 2
years), 3 X best death, 1X bravest. Out of many nominations most notably
for best death.

GoK

Any and all feedback is welcome, as you never know when you'll see another

Regardless of the reasons why attendance is dropping, it is not a good thing.

We can list the reasons for it to be happening, which does little to solve the
problem, because I suppose we mostly know why it's happening.

As a strategy, it would be better to list the ways a solution might be
generated.

>As a strategy, it would be better to list the ways a solution might be
generated.

Make the Guild Meetings worth attending for reasons other than signing
up
Currently, the Stupidest adventurer stories & the SGT are really the
only other reasons, apart from chatting with people.

Make some great things only available at Guild meetings.
For instance, the recent Lunar Games signed up lots of people at the
Guild. This cross-GM event really helped bring the guild together. There
needs to be stuff that happens there that isn't put on the web, even if
it could be, to draw people together.
Maybe you can be nominated for stupidest no matter what, but only win if
you are there in person to receive your potion.
Or whatever. Carrots, not sticks.

Try to encourage less cliquiness.
How? I don't know, but the desire only to play with certain people leads
to arranging to only play with these people. This is the key driver in
my opinion, and knowing how to solve it (or whether its solvable, or
even a *bad thing*) is beyond me. The diversity of personalities and
GMing style is a strength and weakness of DQ. Maybe our tolerance for
difference is declining?

As a GM, avoid pre-signing a party
Its hard, especially when a party says "can you run X for me?" You want
to be able to run PC-specific stuff, and often than comes with a party.
However, try to announce some games only at a Guild Meeting.

As a player, try different GMs.
Try every GM. I think Kelsie and Julia are the only two GMs that I
haven't tried, and I'm keen to go on one of their games.
If its been a few years and a GM was OK, but not great, try again -
they've probably got better, or maybe had a bad session.

To correct the dropping numbers we could if we wished:

1) Ask GMs to not allow wiki sign ups.
2) Ask GMs to try and have a maximum of half the spots on their adventure
pre-booked.
3) Ask GMs to try and have a maximum of one spot on their adventure
pre-booked (too allow for quests etc).
4) Only give the full Exp bonus for GMing to GMs that announce their
adventure at the guild meeting.
5) Change the bonus Exp for GMs to 1,500 exp per person you have not GMed in
the last 6 months, instead of a current amount.
6) Encourage GMs to play with new players.
7) Encourage other GMs and Players to be more supportive and less - poo poo
about new GMs, new GM items etc...
8) Give a bonus of 25,000 exp for new GMs wishing to try to GM instead of
playing.
9) Give GMs a bonus of 1 X 10 pt healing potion (for any of the GMs
characters), free SGT, if they announce their adventure at the guild
meeting.
10) Introduce a penalty of 10% of Exp the characters gain if it is the
second adventure from the same GM (back to back).
11) Introduce a penalty of 50% of Exp the characters gain if it is the third
adventure from the same GM (in a row).
12) Only gain access to the guild healers at the Guild meeting, or when on
adventure which announced at the guild meeting.
13) Only gain access to the healing potions at the Guild meeting, or when on
adventure which announced at the guild meeting.
14) Only gain from awards if you are at the Guild meeting.
15) In recognition of the membership getting older - change the guild
meeting to a dinner event at ABC on Sunday evening.

Given the truly large amount of time it took to setup the Lunar Games
(working out balanced encouters over low, med and high level, creating 3
booklets, sorting out a RL dinner event, printing 20+ copies of the
booklets, making 400+ playing cards etc) and the large workload at run time
and the outspoken negitive feedback about the GMs and GMing styles, leads me
to think it is simple not worth anyones time running anything like this
again. GMs would have a better time sticking neddles in their eyes instead.

I think it is pretty cool that some ppl's games are so loved by the players
who know them that they are mobbed. I think that the wiki is a great tool
for signing up on games and if we are brave like Andrew we can end up having
played on one of every G.M's games using it, as we can now mob the elusive
G.M's too.

I think the real thing that is making the numbers drop is online role
playing. I mean you don't have to wait a week to get your fix and you get
to bash up the other players :). However most players tend to eventually
drift back from this once they realise that DQ has better Coffee,Cake and
our player base is pretty fine too.

I thought that one of the nicest things about the Lunar games was that 5
games worth of ppl went to dinner and chatted in the middle of the session.
More of this kind of thing would be cool.

Hey guys,

the dinner idea dosen't sound to bad as long as it is an early dinner for
those who have kids but we would need to find a place we could take over and
was fairly cheap as I know I am often only just able to aford the SGT and
hall rental some sundays.

A place where you could chuck kids so people don't have to worry about
babysitters would be good.

As to carrot and stick I think the carrot could work but the stick would be
counterprodutive.

You some times end up playing with the same people or Gm because that is the
only game you can get.

Maybe a tally of who has been playing with which Gm would be useful to spot
patterns and then offer incentives to break those patterns.

Give GMs more ep for running a game without playing and the current amount
for Gming and playing with bonus ep for those who run pick up games.

Give bonus ep for turnning up or for winning an award and being there to
recieve it.

More guild mixers like th annerversery/birthday party some everyone gets to
know each other.

Just a couple of ideas
TTFN
Michael

this would have the distressing result of stopping multi game plots as the
players would have NFI what was going on.

Be assured we only change the facts to maintain our high journalistic

Its possible we miscounted, it would be nice to have a summary table
