Thanks Jim 

It was a good idea to get people to say what might make a difference and
moving things forward.

The things that seem likely to make a difference to me are having only half
participants pre-booking, or as Andrew says ask for expressions of interest
only on the wiki and take actual party members at the guild meeting.

I guess it is up to GM's individually at this stage.

I am planning to run a game next session and will do the "expressions of
interest on the wiki with actual sign-ups at the guild meeting" thing.  I
want a balanced party though so probably will not just take the first 6
people who bowl up. Haven't exactly decided how to manage this choosing
dynamic though.

We do seem to be having more games go out than in the past on the wiki there
are between 9 - 12 adventues out each time it did seem like only 6 or so in
the past (maybe some did not have scribe notes). anyway 12 adventures is
quite a lot of GM's and players.

I looked at those items, before and after they were changed.

I could see bugger all wrong with them, before the changes.

What I saw a lot of was a species of whining and ranting that I thought was
ill-advised and lacked any generosity of spirit to original ideas.

I wouldn't advise putting the stuff on the wiki again, because in my experience,
much tougher stuff has been given out and it was pretty much accepted. By
putting the items on the wiki, it was seen as somehow legitimate to flame it.

There will always be some dick who takes it upon himself to balance issues that
don't warrant it. I expect we all just have to accept the fact that we live in
a dick rich environment.

But most starting DQ GMs don't consider it as an option at all.

There are 90 little villages on Jono's new Map in an area the size of
greater Auckland

I am planning a med level adventure around of one of the outlying ones.

Very few of these are detailed on the wiki (that I could see anyway) so, so
long as the GM has a feel for culture in Cazala they should be fine (seems
to me anyway).

downwards after much discussion on the population density of Cazala.

I suggest picking a village and
1) if it's not on the wiki add it, then put in a few facts you would like=20
you players to know, then after the adventure fill in the extra they found =

out (eg NPC names)
2) if it's already there then use the available info and make up the rest=20
(and update the wiki after the adventure)

I have already reduced the number of village/hamlets from 300 to around 100.
I also bunched up the reminding villages and hamlets closer to their market
towns.

I have also reduced the amount of farm land they are currently farming to
reflect this. Before they had an area being farmed which would need 600 or
so villages/hamlets to keep it farmed, and a population of 250,000 people.

I understand that Andrew's poll said that people wanted a population of
approximately 50,000 to 75,000 + Seagate. I have not checked this outcome so
I could be flat out wrong.

The population's for the village/hamlets is aimed at around 250-500 people
each dot on the map.
This puts the population for them at 25,000 to 50,000 people in Duchy of
Carzala, with a balance being somewhere around 350 each being a total of
35,000 people.

The market towns at approximately  20,000 people (including approximately
4,000 from Brastor, in Arn's Ferry)
Seagate is approximately 25,000 people. Approximately 10 ruined
villages/hamlets in Carzala.

Current totals are approximately:
Village/Hamlets: 35,000
Market towns: 15,000
Segate City: 25,000
Brastor people: 5,000

I am almost entirely uninterested in Carzala, and the shared world of Alusia.

I would probably never run a game there, and would never be swayed to do so, as
far as I can see. I run good games. Other people do as well. If they want to
run the game on the back of a pig's bum, I couldn't give a tinker's.

We are interested in good games. Not people playing in the same, imaginary,
geography.

Ignore everything else except how to make a game that has enough entertainment
to capture excitement, and enough structure to provide suspension of disbelief.
The rest is so unimportant by comparison that I wonder why anyone even thought
of it.

Lovely turn of phrase as usual Jim.

Though I just don't agree.  I like adventuring where my characters have
build up a history and kind of know what's going on - it helps me with
suspension of disbelief.  One of the challenges is making Alusia consistent
enough for this.  

Still its fine people running games other places too - really I agree that
it's all good.  I should probably come on a game of yours. That tree one
looks interesting, though it is full. Maybe in the future.

really to discuss policy points, but...

WTF!

That's a pretty nazi thing to do to remove the entire Winter Games talk
thread like that. Very, very un-wiki dudes.

That talk page was a good example of a heated debate which *didn't* go too
far. Nowhere was there any ad hominem attacks, nowhere from my memory was
there any abuse. If there were single comments that went too far then those
should have been summarized or deleted.

If it was too long or off topic then refactor, edit it or move it. It was
getting a bit unreadable, I grant you that. That sort of thing is
neccessary.

If this stuff doesnt get discussed in public it will just get swept under
the carpet and then sometime soon everything will just explode and be
unmanageable. We are entitled to free and public debate around DQ if we are
going to be democratic about this. I can see why players are getting touchy
about this. I can also understand why GMs might be feeling touchy about it.
But the whole debate is about balancing games in a multi-GM environment,
something which we should be discussing. I would happily listen to why them
might be feeling touchy and help them understand the necessity of this
process, please feel free to email/skype/call me, or I'm happy to do the
same back.

*didn't* go too far. Nowhere was there any ad hominem attacks, nowhere
from my memory was there any abuse. If there were single comments that

it. It was getting a bit unreadable, I grant you that. That sort of
thing is neccessary.
</p><p>If this stuff doesnt get discussed in public it will just get
swept under the carpet and then sometime soon everything will just
explode and be unmanageable. We are entitled to free and public debate
around DQ if we are going to be democratic about this. I can see why
players are getting touchy about this. I can also understand why GMs
might be feeling touchy about it. But the whole debate is about
balancing games in a multi-GM environment, something which we should be
discussing. I would happily listen to why them might be feeling touchy
and help them understand the necessity of this process, please feel
