How are you expecting this change to cope with several Characters working together in close not just two. If you want skill to be take into account then why not just use straight rks as modifers Why play with messy percentages? Using you example John 20 PS, warrior 5, unarmed 4 total 29 vs Bob 21PS, Warrior 2, and no unarmed, total 23 giving John a bonus of +6 to his dice roll for having more skill than Bob. This also makes adding additional fighters to the combat easy too. We just stick with the current system and add in their strength (and skill or part there of if we want). Helen ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chris Caulfield" <chriscaulf@gmail.com> To: <dq@dq.sf.org.nz> Sent: Friday, September 07, 2007 8:45 AM Subject: [dq] Withdrawing from Close - rule change proposal At present the rule for withdrawing from close states; *Withdraw from Close* A figure may attempt to Withdraw from Close Combat. If they are successful, they may move one hex, but are still treated as prone. A figure may withdraw from Close if a D10 roll plus any positive difference in total Physical Strength between the friendly and hostile figures in the hex is at least 10. Withdraw from close combat (D10 + total friendly Physical Strength – total hostile Physical strength) >10. This rule only takes into account straight PS (physical strength). So John at 20 PS is jumped by Bob with 21 PS who closes with him. Now John cannot get out of close with Bob even if John rolls a 10 on a D10 as the result would be 10+20-21 = 9, which is less than the 10 required. This seems silly. If John was a warrior skilled in fighting and or an Unarmed combat expert he should get some benefit from these skills that are useful in a fight – close or otherwise. *So the proposal is – To change the calculation to be a D100 roll of 50% or less with the following modifiers.* *+/- 5% difference in PS* *+/- 5% difference in Warrior* *+/- 5% difference in Unarmed* This would mean that John with 20 PS, Warrior 5 and Unarmed 4 vs. Bob with 21 PS, Warrior 2 and no Unarmed skill would have an 80% chance of getting out of close. This was calculated as 20-21 = -5%, Rank 5 Warrior vs 2 = +15% and Unarmed Rank 4 vs none = +20% for a total modifier of the roll of +30%. This means that simple PS doesn't determine Close Combat leaving chances. -- to unsubscribe notify mailto:dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz -- |

I carefully considered everyone's views and noted that none of them are players of the PCs who 'aquired' the ship in the first place. Fortunatly for the lot of you Bridget, by far my better half (and incidently one of the affected players) argued for a calm, measured response. And that things would proceed much more constructivly if I did not unlimber the flame cannons. Understand that the Sea Goddess / Pride of Fingolfin is a prop. It is also my prop. It has been used in my storylines and will continue to be used in the future. Other GMs (also not among those making comments) have asked nicely to also play with the prop and being a nice thing I let them. This is part of what DQ is all about. However, you are expected to be nice about it. Having a disscussion on the board or wiki and not directly asking the GM responsible is not nice. Some would call it downright rude and insulting. So. If you have an issue about the SGH/PoF you can address them to me, the GM. I am likely to listen more to the players directly involved. If you feel it is a serious campaign issue I recomend speaking to the Campaign Committee where you will speak to me. If feeling seriously agrieved you can of course speak to me with my Grievence Tribunal hat on and if your character has reached unplayability, I your friendly Character Tribunal member will be there to sort it all out. I will resolve matters in an upcoming adventure. When will that be? When it is possiable to do so. Any demands for increased GMing time from me can be addressed to Bridget. Thankyou for bring this up. It will now be dealt with. By me. William DJ -- to unsubscribe notify mailto:dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz -- |

Seagate Guild of Adventurers Guild Meeting Minutes Spring 807 WK 0) Gods Meeting Voting Issue - Reduction of EM multiplier for non-humans Do we want to make a change? - Passed (9/4/0). By which method? a) Lower by .1 per 200,000xp - withdrawn b) Reduce to zero at the 500,000 mark - 9 votes c) 50,000:1.5->1.4 100,000:1.4->1.3 etc - 4 votes. Do we implement this for the next rulebook now? Failed(6/7/0) This means that a change is to done but the matter is still open for discussion on how to implement it. New options and a new vote will be taken at the next meeting. General Business a) Concern was expressed about games being fully booked when they are posted on the wiki. One recommendation was to keep one or two slots open for filling at the Guild Meeting. Another was to try and announce expectations of the game style: low/high combat, puzzle solving etc. Maybe we should also look at the Guild format itself to see if we can better meet player’s requirements. b) A request was made for feedback about the wiki. One item suggested was putting in a table of contents in order to help users find information. Feedback to be sent to Keith. 1) Adventures going out a) Laird Malcolm McLoad, requested adventurers to help deal to creatures stealing sheep. Jacqui, Low, Mangere, Night: Tuesdays or Fridays b) Engalton is sponsering a low level party to escort a painter to the Superstition Mountains. 5000sp for the attempt, 25000sp on success. Mondays, Low. c) Earl of Pevensey. There is a problem with horse thieves. Pay depending on horses found and thieves killed. Clare, Tuesdays, Massey. d) High Death Lord of Southern Continent. Needs some people to help sort out a a bureaucratic problem. Jeff, Wednesday. Need 1 or 2 extra. Jacqui’s adventure was postponed owing to not enough players. 2) Awards Smartest a) Liessa - There was a plan to send a party member in alone to kill a vampire. Liessa ensured it was ‘kill the vampire, then remember why’. b) Galland - having the idea of making flames hotter so the fire mage could get his spells off. c) Gok - teleporting the party behind the enemy mages so the party could also take advantage of the Enhance Enchant. d) Braegon - getting TDP to teleport the earth elemental e) Sabrina - warping the enemy’s portal so the party could get behind the bad guys. Winner - Galland Bravest a) Mebh - getting rid of whitefire wards by setting them off. b) MDK - closed with a dragon in order to keep it occupied c) Anooke - Took on a powerful undead to keep it occupied while the rest of the party recovered d) Tegan - Putting her head in a troll’s mouth to rescue Rowan e) Viola - going in alone to deal with the vampire f) Broc - charged down onto a giant spider in its web over a lava pit. g) Boulder - jumped off a cloud and freefalled until flying kicked in. Winner - MDK Stupidest a) Silverfoam - forgot to apply powerups and forgot to inform the elven allies of the plan b) Silverfoam - premature charging leaving Sir Kit behind c) Silverfoam - managed to split the party six ways while inside the enemy lair d) Theodona - When the party was about to sign an agreement with an enemy mercenary, she backstabbed him. e) Mary-M & Pennlucian - for not IDing the creatures they could see on the other side of the door before going in to combat. Winner - Silverfoam Best Death No nominations received. 3) General Business a) It was suggested that the stupidest award be renamed in Silverfoam’s honour. b) It is untrue that the marriage between Logan and Lizette was postponed because Lizette isn’t a maiden. An examination has proved that she is. c) Mehb is looking for the ITN of the Marquee of Archers d) Any feedback on the wiki to be sent to Keith e) The next Guild meeting is to be at the Mt Albert Memorial Hall. Could those of you who placed your name on the wiki as seeking a game this season (http://www.dragonquest.org.nz/dqwiki/index.php/Adventure_Wanted_September_2007) , and who got one, could you please log in and remove it. Conversely, if you're still seeking a game this session, then please add your PC and night of preference to that list, under the appropriate level, (or email me with the details and I'll add it) and we'll do our best to find you one.
