Hi,

What is the difference between official Guild missions and PC-sponsored
private missions? My party for the next session is contemplating whether to
go private or not.

I'm guessing the differences might include, for private missions:

* Scribe notes need not be submitted to the guild library (but I want them
on the wiki anyway)

* Treasure splits don't need to be according to any fixed system (but I want
them to seem fair anyway)

* The guild may not provide as much assistance to the party (but they
probably don't need too much)

* The guild can disavow all knowledge of the party's actions (could be
useful)

* The employer can pay less than 200sp/week

As a GM, I'd like to know what other people think before giving the party
the option to go private, and then discovering that this means they [don't]
get to [insert X here].

Regards

Andrew

Well I think the issue of guild justice might be relevant if you have
unsavoury types in the party.

Yea - I don't think it's possible if we belong to the guild to go private.
The guild owns our arses.

However it should be possible to be hired incognito and to have the guild
pretend it doesn't know what where up to so that its stealing reputation is
not tarnished should we be caught - kind of 007 esk.

Most guild rules apply because we are guild members not because we're on the same adventure.
If two guild members meet in a pub and one fleeces/mugs/kills the other then guild justice will
apply equally as if they were there together on an adventure.

I think there is no practical difference except in the way things are done. I'm sure the guild
council only becomes more interested in what their members are up to when they are officially off
the books or trying to be sneaky. After all the council is full of nosy interfering
ex-adventurers who are sure THEY know what is best.

But everyone would scrupulously maintain the fiction that they don't know and make appropriate
denials while organising the unofficial rescue party.

Cheers, Stephen.
