Breaking News
In an act of utter madness, the Rankene protectorate of Ormond has invaded
its own benefactor, sending in several hundred troops thinly disguised as
Tuscan raiders to make surgical strikes against several large villages and
manor houses around the northern city of Ilsig. The surrounding countryside,
stripped of its men-folk by Rankene press-gangs, has been devastated by the
invaders, and lies helpless beneath the iron-shod boot of its erstwhile
conqueror, at least until Ranke turns its gaze north, at which point Count
Mollan is going to have an awful lot of explaining to do to both Duchess
Meredithis and Archbishop Xerxes. Rumours of Tuscanan involvement have not
been substantiated.
This will be a surprise to those characters who are landholders in Ormond or
northern Ranke, along with most of the rest of the world. There were no
astrological warnings, and the Ormond troop build-up appeared to be
defensive in nature.
