Given quarterstaffs are often used double ended is there any reason a Quart=

Assuming there isn't any particular reason, should this be specifically not=

FromStephen Martin

The assumption in DQ is that your one Strike Check per 5 seconds is the result of a combination of
feints and strikes as appropriate to the style of the weapon, the net effect of which depends on
your dice rolls.

It is not a detailed nor accurate model of reality, but it'll do and is not too slow provided
everyone keeps up with what's going on and what they can do.

Quarterstaff goes to a nice high rank so is good for going first and evading, it can be used to
trip, but doesn't do much good whacking someone in heavy armour.
It is a relatively inoffensive weapon which is why peasants and mages are allowed to carry them
without chastisement. Every now and then you run across someone who has spent the 91 weeks
training with it and is actually dangerous.
Not all weapons need to be equally good for front-line fighting, this is one that isn't.

So that would be a no from me.

Cheers, Stephen.

But the point is that in 5 sec you get to make one actual hit. You can
imagine this any way you like front end or back end, with a back flip. The
game dynamics mean it hits once.

I suppose you can make an argument for anything - like that you should get a
second attack with the pummel of your 2 Hand sword because it sticks out and
has a spike. This would improve the game because warriors cannot compete
with mages on damage output and need to be better balanced.

I guess I don't want quarter staves to be so good that they make more sense
for my warrior to wield than say a hand and a half, also I don't want that
puny mage dealing to me with a staff while I'm wearing plate amour because I
would have to retire my warrior and roll a mage.
