Subject[dq] Languages of Ruska and Hindia

Do Ruska and Hindia have their own languages?
If so, what Language Family and Group should they belong to?

I think that yes, they have their own languages: Ruskan[9r] and Hindian[9e]
Which should both be part of the Eastern-Human family.
As for groups, I think
* Ruskan should be Dwarvidic (i.e. influenced by / derived from Dwarven)
* Hindian should be Dravidic (i.e. influenced by / derived from Drow)

In Looking at these, I noticed that the other eastern Human languages don't have groups. I think
that:
* Lunar Empire should be Titanic (i.e. influenced by / derived from Titans)
* Five-Sisters-Courtly should be Elvidic (i.e. influenced by / derived from Elves)

Does anyone have dissenting opinions?
If not, then I will update the wiki languages page and include them for the next set of Rulebook
changes.

Good questions. I agree Ruskan should be added, particularly as there are
several PCs who have it. I also agree Eastern-Human is the correct family
for Ruskan and Hindian.

I agree that the Lunar Empire / Titan link makes sense (although Jono is the
expert), but am not convinced by the Five-Sisters Courtly link to Elvish,
nor the Ruskan link to Dwarven. I'm sure that we could come up with an
explanation for (or against) any number of racial associations for either of
these languages, and my feeling is that they need not be part of a group
(several human languages aren't). I agree with you that Hindian should be
Dravidic, for two reasons: (a) Dravidic is an Indian language/culture; (b)
the background to the adventure I'm currently running supports the theory
that there was a strong influence of drow in Hindia, at a critical time in
the development of its civilisation (unless there is already a Hindi
background developed).

Literate forms: I would have thought that Ruskan would have been 'w' or 'k'
(human alphabets) rather than 'r' (dwarven runes), to fit with the earth
Russian alphabet [the other human alphabet, 'i', is greek]. Similarly, I'd
prefer 'b' or similar (flowing, cursive human script) for Hindia, like the
earth Hindi/Urdu scripts. Urdu script was derived from Persian, so if the
script 'k' (Kingdom, from Azuria) is Persian (Azurian itself is Persian),
then 'k' would be ideal for it, but as Persian script was originally a
variant of Arabic 'b', and it looks right, 'b' is my preference for Hindian.

Regards

Andrew
