Over = the years last 20 + I=E2=80=99ve worn or helped others to don everything = from Greek laminated cotton to full plate mail. I understand how = important the proper fit it is to the various types. Fur, Soft leather and chain are very forgiving armours along the lines = of =E2=80=9Cwhat size sir large medium or small.?=E2=80=9D =E2=80=9CWhat = waist and long or short in the arm/leg.=E2=80=9D Laminates, plates, and scale take more fitting; chest / shoulder width, = Shoulder to hip etc. all become important as the more rigid the armour = the more an improper fit restricts movement. These armours only bend at = the joints and if the joints are in the wrong place you can=E2=80=99t = make full unrestricted rotation of limbs or bend or reach as necessary. = Get it wrong and you can=E2=80=99t put both arms out to meet ahead of = you or bend sideways without bruised hips or even breathe properly in = some cases. By the time you are dealing with full plate, everything from the length = of your fingers between each joint to the definition of your muscles and = thickness and fit of your gambeson effect movement in your exoskeleton. = And if you get it even a little wrong the armour can leave welts, pinch = in important places, bust loose or even lockup on you in combat. =20 The fitting times fit with armours, those that are cheap off the shelf = mass market types that you fit out raw recruits with have low fitting = time, near enough is good enough. The longer times reflect the more time needed by the armourer and the = wearer to work on getting each piece just so... So that a warrior in = full kit has the best protection possible, with minimum loss of = mobility. And that can include something as simple as having the wearer = there so that the holes in the straps are punched in the right place. It = takes many minutes to put on plate armour think how much longer it takes = to do it the first time when your fitting, marking, removing, punching = holes, refitting and checking. --001a11c1da064e5d8704fadaefbd Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable I remain unconvinced. Getting measurements may take a little longer for armour where you need to know where the wearer's elbows and knees are, but I cannot believe it will add that much more time. I suspect the artisan measures you, make a start on the armour, you come in for a fitting, they make adjustments and at that point, you have the finished product or they fit you again for more adjustments. It's not about how unforgiving the material is, it's about what work can be productively engaged in to make it any better, and I do not believe that multiplying the time by a factor of 5 or even 6 times is anything other than ridiculous. Same binding as last time, what they call Thermal binding – metal spine and transparent cover front and back. Quotes are $12 for the 3-col version, $16 for the 2-col large print version. Please list your orders on the wiki by the end of Thursday so I can give them final numbers on Friday. Cash for books on Sunday at the guild meeting, or preferably deposit the money in the club account before then. Not everyone is on the email list, please check with those on your games if they want a copy printed and let them know what they need to do. Cheers, Stephen. Subject | [dq] SGT time again |

From | Jacqui Smith |

Hello, fellow adventurers! It's that time of the season again. You can send contributions directly to me at flamis@slingshot.co.nz Time to get working on those contributions. You'll get paid in EP, (increased to 5EP per word rounding up, so 500 words nets you 2500 EP) and if you contributed part of an ongoing series last time you'll get a 500 EP bonus this time. I'm also awarding an EP bonus for appropriate pictures - which should in black and white and preferably line drawings matching the current style of the SGT. Scribes should start writing up your adventure reports now, even if you're not finished. Even a one or two paragraph summary would be appreciated, and makes a nice bonus to your scribing XP for not a lot of work. Don't forget the classifieds - anything to sell? Remember, it's your contributions that make it a great Seagate Times. Jacqui -- to unsubscribe notify mailto:dq-request@dq.sf.org.nz -- |
