Subject[dq] Looking for a game
FromSimon White
DateSun, 14 Dec 2014 15:57:42 +1300
Hi,

I was unable to get to the Guild meeting today.

After there any games being played on Wednesday or Friday (due to child care
arrangements the only 2 days that I can currently play) that have space,
either Grendel (high) or unknown bunny (other characters being currently
unplayable for different reasons).

Subject[dq-announce] Opposed rolling meeting minutes
Fromphaeton
DateSun, 14 Dec 2014 17:34:27 +1300
DQ Gods Meeting – November 9th 2014
Proceeds on Opposed Rolling System

Present: Ian Wood, Jacqui, MTB, Mike Parkinson, Ian A, Kelsie, Jono,
Helen, Julia, Craig, Stephen, Dean, Keith, Martin.

Opposed Rolling System

Why Do This?
No requirement to ask for defence
Characters are rewarded for high numbers
	Fewer absolutes and more randomness
	A more enjoyable game experience
	Easier game experience
It's a minimum change but will require other changes

Please note that this is a change to the Core Rules. Other tweaks for
game balance will be required.

Issues
The number of Spec Grevs and Endurances are increased by roughly five
percent so there are some concerns that this may require some mitigating
abilities.
Could more Spec Grevs take players/characters out of the game or cause
retreats before too much damage is taken. May need to look at the Spec
Grev table.
Could this increase the chance of someone hitting or missing when they
shouldn't? This may result in more planning before combat.
The current system doesn't challenge higher level PCs but this one can.
Are we looking at the high end of the game or at the low medium.
We may need to get Agility fighters working again.
Issue with mages being bored in combat? Not sure this will address that
issue.
Combat being cluttered? Are we making that worse? Thumpfests?
Hard to withdraw with the current rules.

Agility fighters are now a less viable character choice. Should be
boosted.
The value of increased strike chance has decreasing returns. Armour
protections are more important than defence.

Dice roll modifiers count twice as much? Nerf the death bonus? What
about assassin bonuses? Some items will also need to be looked at.

Riposting? May need to be addressed independently?
Speed of combat? It is slower until we get used to it. Speed is
subjective anyway.

Drama and enjoyment. Consulting charts and tables can distract from
that. Players are more engaged with this system. Some people are finding
it difficult. Same system for mooks? Damage roll-over?

Critical successes can be negated. Can be disappointing except when it's
you. Could make a 01 an automatic level 4.

Element of luck. Feels a lot more luck dependant than skill dependant.
Statistically, skill should affect the distribution.

Magic goes to opposed rolling as well? This is probably a different
discussion.

Is this a minimum viable product? Does this break too much? If it breaks
stuff, will it be fixed?

If this change is voted in, does it close the door to different ideas?
The numbers should be able to be tweaked. The Core is the mechanism but
actual values should be able to be changed. We can vote it out as well
if it doesn't work.

The Vote
As per the document with amendment by Kelsie as per email list.
Amendment with proposal from alpha to beta testing. Strengthen play-test
to a more formal method?

Play-test into canon play-test version without riposte. (Riposte
deferred) 12/2/0 – Passed

Move into probation replacing current system (moratorium in 12 months)
2/9/3 – Failed.

I'm also looking for a game either for Mayhem (low - med), Valentine (med -
med) or Fr Rowan (high - high+)
I can't play Wednesdays or Fridays.

Subject[dq-announce] Seagate Guild Minutes - Summer 815
Fromphaeton
DateSun, 14 Dec 2014 22:42:28 +1300
Seagate Guild of Adventurers
Guild Meeting – Summer 815 WK

Adventures Going Out

William – Full
Julia – Full
Jono – Full

A mysterious operative – Go somewhere secret, do something unknown, and
get paid something indetermined. Basically a 'need to know' operation.
Will take place somewhere on the plane of New Terra and no British
required. (Jim, Wednesdays, Medium, Greenhithe)

Elana, a halfling sized fae-elf from Zeyland - Delivering an invitation
to the Guild for representatives to attend the wedding of Lady Gwen and
Lord K'van. They also plan to launch the largest skyrocket in order to
'put a new star' in the sky. Representatives may also be required for
security as all the astrology readings for the future of the royal
couple are all saying “The Darkness is coming …. the Darkness is
coming”. No one knows what this may mean. (Keith, Thursday/Fridays,
Low-medium, Mangere Bridge)

Merchant – Wanting guards to escort a wagon in the Western Kingdoms,
may be Bowcourt or Foxcourt. (Ian, Wednesdays(?), Mediumish)

Awards

Smartest
	No vote

Bravest
Zohar – baiting Lath a lot
Sir Wojer – bravely charging into every fight before tactics had been
worked out.
Mayhem – The party was fighting a large seaworm. Mayhem flew on the
creature's back and gouged into the creature with daggers. He kept doing
it even though the worm dived deep into the water and he was taking
damage.
	Winner - Zohar

Stupidest
Sir Wojer – The party were trying to gain areas of control and were
attempting to strategise where best to put their resources discretely.
Sir Wojer landed in full view and was shot at … a lot.
	Winner – Sir Wojer

Best Death
	No vote

Jammiest B'st'rd
Prue – managing to backfire her spells in a rather creative and
advantageous manner.
Kilroy – doing a spectacular burst of double & triple effect magic
killing the opposition in short order.
Axis – A stone wall had been melted with hellfires and Axis was caught
in the lava fallout when it exploded. Fortunately he had already
transformed into dragon form.
Silken – Axis shook off the aforementioned lava and a glob of it landed
on Silken. Even though she had lots of flesh showing, owing to her
dragonskin two-piece, all of the lava hit the dragonskin bikini top. It
is not known what happened to the resulting stone cast.
	Winner – Prue.

Miscellaneous Business.
One of the original writers of DQ wants to restore the game and wants to
use our Guild's material and setting to contribute to the rewrite. It
was agreed that permission would be granted on the condition that we are
acknowledged.

Subject[dq-pub] Magic Item of Protection for Sale
Fromphaeton
DateSun, 14 Dec 2014 22:49:34 +1300
I, Phaeton d'Tama, wish to put this item up for auction as I feel it is
more use to a lower level adventurer than myself.

There is a reserve on this item. The Guild report on it is as follows:

-----------------------------------------------

Ring of Defending

This gold ring, set with a small onyx, will provide the following
benefits to the wearer:

     +10% to defense
     +10% to magic resistance

The bonuses are cumulative with other magic so long as that bonus is not
+10 or higher. If the other magic gives a bonus of +10 or higher the
ring stops working. Each function is treated separately for this test.

----------------------------------

Please append any bids to this notice.

Phaeton

Subject[dq-announce] Looking for players for an overflow adventure.
Fromphaeton
DateSun, 14 Dec 2014 23:03:24 +1300
I didn't get any takers for my adventure at the Guild meeting but if
anyone is still looking for a game then I am offering this.

Elana, the fae-elf that arrived at the Guild at the beginning of the
Wood Wide Web adventure (
http://www.dq-nz.org/dqwiki/index.php?title=The_Wood_Wide_Web ) arrived
back at the Guild this season to offer an invitation to the Guild to
send representatives to the wedding of Lady Gwen to Lord K'van as a
reward for the Guild's assistance last year.

Part of the celebrations involve "launching the largest skyrocket ever"
in order to "put a new star in the sky" but there is some concern that
something might go wrong as every astrology reading and augery, no
matter how it is performed and what question is asked, is giving the
same answer i.e. "The Darkness is Coming". Guild personal may be needed
as extra security - just in case.

This adventure is planned to be run at my place in Mangere Bridge on
either a Thursday or a Friday and the level is basically dependent on
who turns up. I will consider running this elsewhere if it is more
convenient to the majority (but I prefer not to drive if I can avoid
it).

Keith.

If it's on a Friday and you have other players I can shake Lim free from ranking for it.
