Subject[dq-announce] Guild Meeting on Sunday - New Venue!
FromStephen Martin
DateFri, 11 Dec 2015 12:04:54 +1300
The guild meeting is this Sunday, 12:30 for GMs, 1pm for players as usual.

We are trying a new venue.
As background - the council upped their fees by quite a lot last year, I've been looking at
alternate venues and there's not much that's suitable and cheaper and not too inconvenient.
The scout hall my kids attend doesn't normally hire out their hall but they do need funding to
pay for upkeep so I've talked them into letting us hire it.
Currently they're charging nearly as much as the council but if it works out for this meeting
then I expect to be able to negotiate a better annual rate.

The hall is on New North Road, between Mt Albert Pak'n'Save and Blockhouse Bay Rd (and the
Avondale Train Station). Tucked down a driveway behind the front houses, it has a grassy area
and a firepit with seating that would be great to have the meeting at - weather permitting. If
not then we'll use the scout hall.

Outside, the grass is fine to sit on, there are wooden benches, optionally bring a picnic
blanket.
There is some shade but hats and sunscreen recommended.
5-10 minutes walk from Avondale train station - depending on your walking pace. About 50m from
the nearest bus stops on New North Rd.

There is room to park a couple of cars down the driveway, better to park on New North Rd. If
you expect to have trouble negotiating a short steep driveway or will be carrying lots of
stuff and want to park down the drive, contact me first.

For food/drinks - Pak'n'Save is 5 mins walk, several cafes within 5 mins drive in most
directions (Mt Albert, Avondale, New Windsor).

Cheers, Stephen.
